Second Line Stages

Second Line Stages is the first independent, green studio in the United States. Located in the Lower Garden District, it leads the commercial revitalization of this historic district.

The development of the states involved both careful restoration of the existing historic building and an addition of a new structure, focusing on integrating old New Orleans architecture with modern technology.

The facility includes three soundstages measuring 18,000, 12,500 and 7,400 square feet, each with a sound rating of NC-25, light grid, and show power and silent air conditioning. Also included are 18,000 square feet of production support space plus 73,000 square feet of warehouses. Included in the office building is 20,000 square feet of offices, dressing rooms, make-up, and rehearsal rooms. There is a fifty seat screening theatre and roof top terrace with spectacular views of the city. A mix of Federal and State Historic Tax Credits combined with private financing helped make Second Line Stages a reality. The work of the ownership, design team, and consultants garnered the 2009 Practitioners Showcase award for being the best tax-financed project in the nation.
